The court decided that the workers were no expected to be compelled to join the Union since they were not completely fledged state representatives. The moral measurement for the situation is that individuals have the will and opportunity to pick what they need and that there was no infringement of the First Amendment. The issue was settled in court where the court concluded that the laborers couldn't be constrained to join the association on the premise that the individuals were not completely fledged state workers since representatives are terminated and recruited by singular patients through Medicaid. Furthermore, the choice of the court didn't negate the necessary organization enrollment for the greater populace of open workers. As a chairman, I would have persuaded the representatives to join the trade guilds so as to profit by the full advantages. This would have been finished by making mindfulness in the working environment and help the representatives comprehend the significance of being in a worker's guild (Pozgar, 2014). By so doing, the issue would not have gone to court and the issue would be forestalled in

How Can Men and Woman Communicate More Effectively Through Technology

By what method can people convey all the more viably through innovation? * Women are increasingly expressive when they type or content, then again men aren’t as expressive .EX: ladies may utilize more accentuation or emojis * Men should attempt to be expressive so it doesn’t like they don’t care or to tell the lady they are tuning in and thinking about what they need to state * Or, ladies should attempt to mitigate it a piece with the earnestness of everything when everything doesn’t must be so basic or over energizing for reasons unknown * When imparting through writings or email, since ladies will in general be progressively expressive they watch out for maximize the the160 character message limit (news astute) * Men would most likely listen more on the off chance that they didn’t need to peruse such long texts.Women ought to presumably attempt to fit what they need to state in not many words that despite everything express what is on their mind. * The most ideal methods of correspondence would clearly be eye to eye yet close to that, innovation like visit rooms and texting and informal communication destinations make it simpler for other gender to converse with one another. (eCommunications) * Takes away the pressure and weight of talking face to face. On the off chance that these are the manners in which men and lady impart, they have to ensure that they consider the misinterpretations that could occur. To maintain a strategic distance from the distortion, men and lady should both comprehend that innovation isn’t a genuine method of imparting just on the off chance that the entire error gets in things and starts show. * Sources: * â€Å"When Texting, Eligible Women Express Themselves Better.  Newswise: News for Journalists, Press Release Distribution for Public Relations. Life, or Why Im Afraid Of It

Life, or Why I’m Afraid Of It Hey there. I know youve all missed my gorgeous face. (From my 4.341 project last fall.) All right, maybe gorgeous is a bit of a stretch. Ive been floating around this school for the last couple of months doing student-type things (going to classes, sleeping very little, forgetting to wipe the crusted drool off my face before going to classes) and doing me-type things (takin the pictures, rockin the radio, fallin down surprisingly few flights of stairs) you know, the usual. Id say youve been missing out, but Im really not interesting enough for anyone to miss out on my daily nonantics. Speaking of boring, I had a four-hour shift at Senior Haus Desk yesterday afternoon. (I kid, I kid. I love Senior Haus. I couldnt imagine living anywhere else.) This stretch of time is perfect for when I need to get a solid amount of work done, even though it usually turns into a marathon Futurama-watching session. Im using my IAP time to catch up on my nonrequired reading. Todays read was One Day, All Children, by Wendy Kopp, the founder of Teach for America. The book goes through the process of developing the program, building and expanding it, and how to work in schools across America to change how children learn. I applied to Teach for America in October, and I received the book as a gift from MITs TfA recruitment director after I made it to the final interview round. I find out whether or not Ive been accepted on Thursday, and the rest of my life is mostly on hold until then. Hanna and Liz (both 10s) want to know if I still want to live with them next year, but apartment-hunting is contingent upon my being in the Boston area after June. I dont know where Ill be living. I dont know what Ill be doing. I hate answering questions from my friends and family about this. Let me pass on that message to all friends and relatives of current college seniors: We hate it when you ask us about these things. This is really not the best way to go about planning for the future. I have, however, pre-registered for the spring semester, which is really as far ahead as Im comfortable thinking about right now. (Dont be surprised. I just said Im afraid of life way up at the top of this post.) Anyway, a long-ish time ago in a land far-ish away, I went to high school in a low-income area of Fort Lauderdale with a magnet program, and the extreme disparity between the quality of education in the magnet and the mainstream classes was one of the more disturbing things Ive experienced. My AP Physics class shared a classroom with a remedial reading class; the reading class had the room for the period before AP Physics, and the materials left in the classroom and written on the board revealed that the teacher could barely spell basic words correctly. In some of the larger, more basic math classes, students who could have done well in a more challenging course were barely noticed while the teachers tried to work with students who were even farther behind. Ive had a multitude of amazing opportunities at MIT, and Ive heard from a person or two that this college aint half bad. (Am I right?) But every time I think about the last four years, I also think about how the people I knew (and the thousands more I dont know) who had the potential to have their own college experience but werent able to overcome the odds against them, and thats really not acceptable. I want to see students succeed even after years of being told that they cant, and I want to help make that happen. Sure, thats idealistic, but that doesnt mean its not possible. Heres the thing, though: Im scared. Im terrified that Ill fail. Ive tried to do things and failed at them before take, for example, everything related to 18.02 ever but if I fail at something like this, Im not the only one who has to deal with the consequences. That feeling of responsibility for someone elses future only makes everything even more terrifying. And if this doesnt work out, then what happens? This is something I care about a lot and really want to do with my life, and when I try to think of my future in a way that doesnt involve teaching, its one scary-looking blank. I am (understandably?) a little jealous when I think about my friends who know what they want to do with their lives and are already doing it, as opposed to sitting around in the overly neurotic state of limbo that has been my last two months. I realize that I havent written about any of this yet; my last post is from the day before I submitted my Teach for America application. TfA isnt the only path towards becoming a teacher, but its a program that shares many of the same ideas and ambitions that I have. Im worried that I wont be accepted, and Ive been afraid of putting myself out there on the blogs because of the possible letdown. Thats not fair to all of you for quite a few reasons, one of which is summed up in some faux-sage advice in the wrapper of a Dove chocolate I ate a few months ago: At the time, I thought the answer was bacon. (Im only half-joking.) But its not. Its really not. (That said, bacons still absolutely delicious.)

The Ethics of Cloning Essay example - 1453 Words

The Ethics of Cloning On February 27, 1997, it was reported that scientists produced the first clone of an adult sheep, attracting international attention and raising questions on the morality of cloning. Within days, the public had called for ethics inquires and new laws banning cloning. Issues are now raised over the potentially destructive side of this scientific frontier. Many people are morally opposed to the possible consequences of women being able to give birth to themselves, or scientists seeking to clone genetically superior humans. Others argue that the positive effects of cloning will outweigh the negative. The issue over whether cloning humans is ethical is receiving more and more attention as scientists successfully†¦show more content†¦Kants ideas of autonomy can then also be used against cloning. In the specific arguments given on both sides of the issue that follow, both of these moral philosophies are apparent. In understanding why some chose to reject or accept the practice of cloning, basic knowledge how cloning is achieved becomes helpful. Some reject cloning because they believe humans are playing God, others claim that scientists do not create life by cloning any more than they would in the practice of in vitro fertilization. According to the American Heritage College Dictionary, cloning is to reproduce or propagate asexually. This is obviously not the traditional form of human reproduction. There are three basic methods of cloning: separating the embryo and making twins with the same genetic make-up, taking a cell from a fertilized ovum when the cell begins to split and replace it in another females ovum, or nuclear transplantation (Travis). The famous cloning of an adult ewe, whos offspring was named Dolly, was accomplished through the second method by Dr. Ian Wilmut and his colleagues at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland (World Book). Dolly was born by taking genetic m aterial from cells in the mammary glands of a 6 year-old ewe and putting the acquired cells into an unfertilized ovum. Out of 277 tries, researchers eventually produced only 29 embryos that survived longer than 6 days, of these 29, all died beforeShow MoreRelatedThe Ethics Of Cloning894 Words   |  4 PagesPeriod 6 The ethics of cloning Early in 1997, Scottish scientist Dr. Ian Wilmot revealed to the world that he had successfully cloned an adult sheep, Dolly. Homeschooling should replace normal schooling for the betterment of students in Hong Kong free essay sample

Homeschooling refers to the education of children at home, typically by parents or tutors, unlike the formal settings of schools. In many countries around the world, children are not legally obligated to attend school. In England, France, Canada, the United States and Australia, it is perfectly legal for parents to educate their kids at home. Homeschooling is becoming more popular every day, with a growth rate of 7 to 15 percent per year over the world. There are about two million children currently learning at home in the world. Homeschooled kids do well on standardized tests, are welcome at college and universities, and as adults, have a reputation for being self-directed learners and reliable employees. This essay is going to examine whether homeschooling should replace normal schooling for the betterment of students in Hong Kong. Homeschooling makes children miss the golden opportunity to practice their social skills. School is the miniature of society. We will write a custom essay sample on Homeschooling should replace normal schooling for the betterment of students in Hong Kong or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page One needs to have not only knowledge of the world, but also interpersonal communication skills in order to survive, not to mention excel in a society. If a child is taught at home solely by his/ her parents, the child misses the chance to meet and interact with other kids. Peer learning has vital benefits as well. By communicating with friends, students can improve their interpersonal skills. Homeschooled children cannot take part in extra-curricular activities like debate, choir and team sports. As interactive learning is such an important component in modern education, homeschooling deprives children of their chance to develop their social skills and network, and even friends. Furthermore, home is not the most suitable environment for learning which lower the effectiveness of learning. Home cannot provide many different hardware which can only be provided by day schools. For instance, the different kinds of experiments must be conducted in a safety equipped and qualified laboratory . The many apparatus like Bunsen Burner, funnel and beaker can only be found in a laboratory. Home can never provide such hardware to support the diverse learning needs of children . The equipment of language labs, music room and library only appear in a school setting. Besides, there are too many temptations at home, such as television and computer games, which would prevent children from concentrating on learning. Homeschooling undermines the development of creative thinking. Parents-to-children teaching is after all the indoctrination of parents thinking and values system to their children. In Hong Kong, most parents are very concerned about their children and hope them have a bright future. Therefore, they may try to give what they think is the best to the children. It is common that parents force their children to have piano lesson, choir practice, drawing class and so on in Hong Kong. Parents tend to forcefully spoon feed what they want their children to know. In many cases, children cannot develop multiple thinking perspectives. They just do what their parents ask them to do. Their creativity and critical thinking, which are highly-valued in todays competitive world, can hardly be formed. On the other hand, it is not suitable to implement home-schooling in Hong Kong. Most parents have full time job. They do not have time to teach their children. Moreover, parents are not professional in teaching when compared to trained teachers. They may not know how to teach their children effectively. Also, it is impossible for parents to know all knowledge of different subjects. In school, teachers are specialize in few subjects and they can concentrate on those subjects to prepare teaching materials. According to Bill and Ana Moody, who homeschool their children, they admitted that it is hard to teach science topics properly at home. They do not have sufficient knowledge of science and science requires to do experiments. Homeschooling brings another problem: how to assess the ability of students? Hong Kong is a knowledge-based society, it is important to have certificates to prove ones academic Usually, one will get a job easily with higher education level. Different jobs have different required education levels. If homeschooling is implemented, there is no standard to assess students unless all students join public examinations offered by authorized organization and the Education Bureau. Homeschooling does not provide a standard to assess whether students has understand the knowledge fully. As every parents and tutors may have design a different curriculum for students, there is no standard of what basic knowledge that students should learn. Some people argued that a unified education system simply cannot cater for the individual needs of each and every student and, therefore, homeschooling is a better way for children to learn as it is more flexible which can cater individuals needs. It can provide a tailor-made learning schedule which can cater learning speed of the children and specific requirements by those who best understand them: their parents. It may allow students a more flexible combination of subjects which cater for individual needs. This would arouse interest in study, giving students the initiative to learn. However, small class teaching , which is quite popular in Hong Kong, can also cater the needs of different children. Due to the decreasing birth rate, schools started to implement small-class teaching and has smaller teacher-to student ratio. This allows teachers to pay more attention to each student in class. Flexible combination of subjects can also be achieved by new curriculum. In the past, usually students were divided into art, science and commerce classes and they were only allowed to choose subjects which are related to each other. Now, students under the new curriculum are allowed to choose subjects freely. For example, student can choose to study Biology, a science subject, and Geography, an art subject. Some also claimed that homeschooling can enhance close family relationship. However, this may not be true. Conflicts and arguments are easily happened when parents stay with their children all the time. Parents may easily lose temper when their children are not listening to them or cannot follow their teaching schedule as they are more emotionally affected when facing their own children. Moreover, children may easily lose concentration on learning as there are too many temptations at home as mentioned before. If parents punished their children for this, the parent-child relationship would suffer. All in all, homeschooling should not replace normal schooling for the betterment of students as there are too many weaknesses of homeschooling though admitted that normal schooling has its flaws. In the current education system, students are required to study a fixed and long syllabus within a short period of time. Students study under tremendous pressure and may eventually lose interest in study. However, homeschooling neglects the social development of children which is vital in modern society. Normal schooling not only let children to absorb knowledge, it also gives chances for children to socialize and provides an all-round education. Also, the advantages and claims of homeschooling can also achieved by other means under the system of normal schooling.

Become an Adjunct Professor

Become an Adjunct Professor In the academic world, there are several types of professors. In general, an adjunct professor is a part-time instructor. Instead of being hired on a full-time, long-term basis, adjunct professors are hired based on the number of classes needed and by the semester. Usually, they are not guaranteed work beyond the current semester and are not given benefits. While they may be retained over and over again, being an adjunct is more of a temporary role in general. Adjunct Professors Contracts Adjunct professors work by contract, so their responsibilities are limited to teaching the course they have been hired to teach. They are not required to conduct research or service activities at the school, as a typical professor would participate in. In general, adjunct professors are paid $2,000 to $4,000 per class, depending on the university or college at which they teach. Many adjunct professors hold full-time jobs and teach to supplement their income or to expand their networking capabilities. Some teach simply because they enjoy it. Other adjunct professors teach several classes at several institutions each semester in order to earn a living from teaching. Some academics argue that adjunct professors are taken advantage of because many so desire to keep a foot in academia despite heavy workloads and poor pay, but it still makes good financial sense for different professionals and institutions. Pros and Cons of Adjunct Teaching There are advantages and disadvantages to becoming an adjunct. One perk is that it can bolster your image and help you develop a professional platform; another is that you will not have to get involved in organizational politics that plague many institutions. The pay is much lower than a regular professor, though, so you may feel like you are doing the same amount of work as colleagues and getting paid less. Its important to consider your motivations and goals when considering a career or job as an adjunct professor; for many people, its a supplement to their career or income instead of a full-time career. For others, it can help them get their foot in the door to becoming a tenured professor. How to Become an Adjunct Professor To be an adjunct professor, you will need to hold a masters degree at the least. Many adjunct professors are in the middle of earning a degree. Some have Ph.D. degrees. Others just have a lot of experience in their respective fields. Are you an existing graduate school student? Network in your department to see if there are any potential openings. Also, inquire locally at community colleges to break in and get some experience.

Describe Two Opposite People

Describe two opposite people In the small community of Culmersville there are only two adults that I could spend time with and never be bored. One of which was a kind lady by the name of Ms. Kelly and the other was the funniest man in the world by the name of Mr. King. Ms. Kelly is a kind person. She always teaches me to help those people who are in need and she also never got tired of helping others. For example, one of my friend’s family financial situation wasn’t so good and therefore Ms. Kelly buys him breakfast almost every morning. She hopes that he will not feel hungry during the school time and knows it can help him to concentrate in his studies. Ms. Kelly is also a sympathetic lady. Although she was not high-educated, she always teaches her kids and me to help other people. During weekends she would visit the Children’s Hostel and help the workers to teach and feed the children. She also always invites me and my family to be a volunteer and join her to do social works. On the other hand Mr. King was the complete opposite. He was an electrician and one of the most selfish people I knew. Mr. King would have two bottles of water and would rather throw a bottle of water in the garbage or put it in his car before he would give it to you. But yet I found Mr. King to be a funny man and spent lots of time with him playing dominoes. I had the best relationship with Mr. King in Culmersville. This probably was because I never asked him for anything. But Ms. Kelly and Mr. King was the worst of friends. I would call them enemies. All of this started when Ms. Kelly asked Mr. King to donate some of his funds to the Children’s Hostel. Mr. King could have told her a simple ‘no’ but he loudly told Ms. King, ‘if you don’t get off my property talking foolishness about donating money I would throw you off myself’. This was where the commotion started. Ms. Kelly then asked, ‘Do you call homeless children foolishness? ’ Mr. King then said, ‘The children aren’t the foolishness. You are. ‘Mr. King then slammed the door in Ms. Kelly’s face like she was coming to rob his house. Ever since this day every time Ms. Kelly sees Mr. King she would start pointing fingers at him telling people he hate homeless children and unfortunate people. These are the two people that thought me that people with opposite personalities would never be able to be together. But, although Ms. Kelly and Mr. King are two completely opposite people I enjoy being with either of them.

Principles of Accounting Essay

This paper seeks to examine at least four accounting regulatory bodies, and discuss how an organization complies with the standards of the regulatory bodies. The four regulatory bodies to be discussed are the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board PCAOB. Both standard boards FASB and GASB aim to the make the financial statements understandable, relevant and useful to users of financials statements by prescribing the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to be used as guides in the preparation of financial statements (Business Editors, 2002). They however differ on entities covered. While GASB issues GAAP to local and state governments, FASB prescribes GAAP to the private and public entities. Since the primary objective of the government entities is service rather than profit, GAAP for local and state governments deals on fiscal and operational accountability. On the other hand, since the primary objective of private and public entities is profit, GAAP under FASB focuses on fair presentation of the financial statements. The differences in the functions of the two are evident in the kind of users. The users of FASB standards are private and public companies are stockholders, investors, creditors, labor unions, taxing authorities and the customers while the users of GASB standards are normally legislators, oversight bodies, investors, creditors and the general public. Strayhorn, 2003) The entities covered also differ in auditors. Those under the GASB jurisdiction are subject to audit by government auditors while those under FASB are subject to audit by certified public accountants or independent auditors As to how organizations comply with the standards prescribed by the two bodies is just to the two bodies to have a clean or unqualified opinion by auditors who will conduct and audit of the financial statements of the companies. If the audit opinions are not unqualified for clean, there is a good sign of non-compliance with GAAP. The US SEC is also in sense an accounting regulatory bodies since it will make it sure that public companies covered by the GAAP will have to comply with the requirements other these companies risk the penalties that the SEC may impose in accordance with its authority a regulator body under the law. Since the companies may suffer the consequence for non-compliance with the GAAP, these companies are encouraged if not forced to comply with the standards set by the FASB as enforced by SEC. By the passage of Sarbanes-Oxley Law of 2002, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) was created for the purpose of overseeing the audits of public companies and their auditors. The office in a sense helps in the implementation of the purpose of Sarbanes-Oxley law in increasing independence requirement of auditors, in the forms of more strict professional and ethical standards for auditors, directors and offices via the use of more disclosure requirements (Giles, J. et. al, 2008). In short the PCAOB is believed to improve quality and transparency of financial reports issued by companies. Thus, PCAOB is also considered an accounting regulatory body since strengthening the audit requirements necessary forces compliance with the accounting standards set by the FASB.
